Editorial
This newsletter is designed to provide an overview of the current period activities, as a way of keeping in touch with our stakeholders.
In this issue, we brief the development of the GoGreen activities, that took place during the first semester of the project, as well as foreseen actions / events that will take place.
Summary of the project
In line with the EU goals for a' twin transition', it is important to take actions that support a sustainable digital transformation. Within this twin transition policy framework, the main objective of the project is to promote the adoption of an integrated approach and framework for the creation of combined green and digital transformation initiatives at the national and transnational level, that will lead to a ‘greener’ functioning of digital infrastructures using data centers. The project objective is relevant with Priority Axis 2 Environment of the Program, which recognizes the importance of increasing the capacity of local actors to apply innovative approaches in developing friendly environmental strategies for the benefit of the program area; this capacity can be enhanced through different types of joint activities and the implementation of best practices in the field.
Project Communication
Communication Channels
The project website (https://sustainet-erasmus.eu/) and the Social Media channels (Facebook & LinkedIn) of the project has been created.
The project website accommodates general information about the project itself, the partnership and ensures access to all project deliverables. It also provides accurate and timely information about the scheduled project events. The social media pages include information about the topic of the project, news about its progress and information regarding the upcoming events. It also provides information and articles regarding themes and topics of twin transition.

Kick-off Meeting
The kick of meeting was successfully held online on the 9th of December 2021. All partners were participated and the actions and role of each of them were thoroughly discussed and clarified. The meeting was focused on the current status and the upcoming challenges of the project, especially regarding each country’s pilot implementation.
Pilot Applications
Greece
During this period, the Region of Western Macedonia has proceeded with the planning and designing of the procedures and the detailed technical specifications that should be followed regarding the implementation of the pilot actions. The pilot action in Greece is about the installation of two Green Computing Power Data Centres through which the heat released from them will be utilized for the production of domestic hot water. After extensive research for finding the suitable locations for the implemantation of the pilot action, the RWM decided to install two Data Centres, one in the building of the student residences of the University of Western Macedonia and one in the Grevena Hospital.
Cyprus
Within the framework of the ‘’Work Package 6_ Pilot interventions aiming to promoting and enabling the ‘greening’ of digital transformation initiatives’’, the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) and the Cyprus Energy Agency (CEA) focused their pilot actions on green digitalization and the creation of digital infrastructures that are environmentally sustainable. Specifically, they have both signed a contract with KIOS Research and Innovation Center of Excellence, of the University of Cyprus for the implementation of green infrastructure provisioning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation.
What already implemented are:
- Indoor measuring devices which record the energy consumption of our buildings at a real time.
Making the building more digital means having all the required information in digital form. That is why CEA has proceeded with the purchase and installation of two indoor measuring devices at its premises. These two devices now record the energy consumption of our buildings in real time. All the data is saved on the platform owlintuition from which we can be informed about the energy consumption, the cost, and the C02 emissions on a weekly, monthly, and/or yearly base. The pilot is co-funded by the GO GREEN Interreg Balkan-Mediterranean project, which focuses on the green digitalization and the creation of digital infrastructures that are environmentally sustainable.
- Drone with thermal camera
The energy efficiency assessment and monitoring of a building requires special measuring devices. For that reason, CEA has purchased a drone with infrared camera for measuring and monitoring purposes. An infrared camera provides more information for the energy efficiency of a building, its insulation, and its energy losses. This equipment was co-funded by GO GREEN Interreg Balkan-Mediterranean which focuses on green digitalization and the creation of digital infrastructures that are environmentally sustainable.
- New, less energy-consuming servers
In the context of creating combined green and digital transformation initiatives (twin transition), the CCCI is showing the way to green entrepreneurship by starting the transformation of its building into a Green Building. The first action that will take place is the replacement of the old consumable servers with the installation of new, less-energy-consuming servers. At this point the tender for the servers has been published and the new servers will be installed as soon as the procedure closes.
For the completion of the Pilot actions in Cyprus, more actions are being planned:
- E - invoicing for online payment
- Air Quality Sensors
- Photovoltaics
- Smart meters
- Electrical Vehicle Chargers
- Software for data digitalizing
Upcoming Events / Activities
“Info days”
The organization of the open info-days will took place during the second year of the project and will be organised in Cyprus. The main scope of these info-days will be to inform decision makers, stakeholders and public about the project objectives, outcomes and future applications.
‘’Promotional Events’’
The promotional events will take place in Bulgaria and will aim in promoting the project and its scope at the national stakeholders.
Project meetings
The next forthcoming project meetings will be held online and will be programmed once per 4 months. An in person meeting is being discussed to take place in Kozani in January 2023.
